76 trombones led the big parade

Today amidst going visiting teaching, making french toast for dinner, talking to a few people, and going to dessert night, I watched The Music Man (1962 version). My parents were born in the 40s and married in the 60s. Therefore I have grown up with a lot of old movies/music. When I was in second grade and we were going around the room and having to say our favorite actress...I of course couldn't think of anyone's name that my classmates would know, so I said good ol' Doris Day. ;) Hilarious. My teacher was probably a little taken back. Needless to say musicals are one of my favorite things, and the Music Man is no exception. Here is a few reasons why I have fond feelings/memories about this movie:

1. My parents LOVE this movie. My dad referenced it on numerous occasions.
2. I sang a song from this movie in a ward talent show with my sister Heather (and my mom?) with my dad on the piano, when I was little.
3. My mom was in this musical when she was in high school. whenever I hear "pick-a-little-talk-a-little" i think about how she sang that ridicously fast song.
4. The songs are so fun and creative. The train one at the beginning, madam librarian... I listened to those songs a lot growing up.
5. It's one of President Monson's favorite movies, and he has referenced it at least once in a general conference talk. (.ever since I was little I have LOVED how he loves referencing musicals...Oklahoma, Music Man, etc. and I love that I always knew what he was talking about. hahaha). A girl from my ward came to give me a wedding invitation today and when I told her what I was watching and that it's a movie President Monson likes to quote from she was like "oh! then that must be a great Sunday activity" haha.

Here's President Monson's quote:
I am what my wife, Frances, calls a “show-a-holic.” I thoroughly enjoy many musicals, and one of my favorites was written by the American composer Meredith Willson and is entitled The Music Man. Professor Harold Hill, one of the principal characters in the show, voices a caution that I share with you. Says he, “You pile up enough tomorrows, and you’ll find you’ve collected a lot of empty yesterdays.” 1 "

6. I'm pretty sure one of the first times I ever saw the actual movie was at my grandparent's house. And that definitely brings back memories since my grandpa died when I was eight.
7. My dad really loved the song "76 trombones"
8. I was in band in middle school and high school. ;)
