Day 2- First Day in the City, Part 1

The next day we were off to New York City. We drove to the station in South Norwalk, and then hopped onto a train...

Which took us to Grand Central Station. I really like that building. :)

me.....

We then took a subway to Battery Park where we were going on a harbor cruise.

(There was a really cool asian playing the saxophone not far from Heidi in this picture. This is underground waiting for the Subway. He was amazing. )

Heidi's mom buying our tickets for the subway. She did an awesome job of navigating us everywhere.

Crowded subway happiness :)

Before we got on our cruise, we grabbed a hot dog from a vendor. After the cruise we found out that they were all closing up because President Obama was coming. Don't know if that actually happened since the news said he was elsewhere that day.

On the cruise, we went under the Brooklyn Bridge.....

passed a Pretty Lady.....

went by Ellis Island

..and Ground Zero/the Financial District.

After we got off we decided to walk over to Ground Zero. They're getting ready for the memorial site to open on the 10th anniversary I believe. We went into a visitor's center that was a preview for what the site will look like.

they're building a freedom tower, which you can see an artist's impression of what it will look like on the NY skyline here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/sep/04/911-ground-zero-skyscraper
pretty cool.

Here's a little model that was in the preview site. I really like the sunken pools with the cascading water.

freedom tower being built.

Kind of put things in perspective- When at the site, I looked the other way down the streets imagining what it would be like having to run away from the debris.
