Heidi and I ventured on our own into the city on Saturday. We miraculously made it to the train station by piecing each other's "oh! that building looks familiar!" until we matched back up with mapquest's directions. Yeah, Connecticut roads- lots of trees, lots of winding streets.
Woohoo! We made it!
We took a a cab to the American Museum of Natural History. You know what was playing every 2 minutes in the cab? The mormon.org commercial- they are advertising hard. That and a big screen in times square. We had a late start to the day, so we only had about 2 hours in the museum.
We saw some dinosaurs
The first complete Tyrannosaurus skull ever collected.
Dum Dum!
The front of the building was under construction. So no Teddy Roosevelt picture. ;)
Our plan was to go to the museum of art next, but it was too late to do that. We walked through Central Park to get to 5th Avenue.
Central Park from the Empire State Building...so interesting to see this massive park smack dab in the middle of the city.
Funny story that sadly I don't have a picture of. You know in 101 Dalmatians at the beginning and everyone in the park looks like their dog? Well Heidi and I were walking behind this cute really pudgy dog with a huge bum that was really low to the ground. It was waddling back and forth on it's feet. Let's just say the owner reminded us a lot like the dog. ;) It was so cute.
Anyways, I really liked the park. We weren't walking in the areas with any of the statues like Alice in Wonderland of the belevedere castle, but it was still cool. I thought a lot of the "How Does She Know" song from Enchanted while I was walking through.
Then we were on 5th Avenue.
We passed by the Plaza
Went to the Lindt chocolate shop
And grabbed a yummy sandwich at a random shop where the lady convinced us it was worth coming inside. ;) We split a sandwich so Heidi was pretty sure the lady probably thought we were a lesbian couple.
Heidi happy with her Lindts.
Then we went to Rockefeller. When trying to find the main Rockefeller Plaza (30 Rock) we stopped and talked to an older man in a Rockefeller uniform. He asked us where we were from and started talking about Salt Lake. Then started talking mentioning capitals of different states. Haha. He had a thick accent so it was hard to tell exactly what he was getting at. But we smiled and nodded a lot. ;)
Rockefeller...
blurry picture :(
This is where the huge Christmas tree and the ice skating is at Christmas.
We tried finding the "30 Rock" address on the building, walked around the entire thing, apparently not there anymore. I think we passed Radio City a few times in the process.
We also went to the Lego Store which was next to Rockefeller. They had a lot of cool NY buildings built by Lego's!
30 Rock
Dragon that went throughout store
Mimic of the panel over the main entrance at Rockefeller
To round off the night, we went back to Times Square. Times Square is definitely something you have to see for yourself in person. Pictures don't really capture how big and bright the screens are, and how you're just surrounded by them.
We went to the Disney store there. Stacey always loves walking in a Disney store. And this one was BIG and so darn cute.
Perry!

Oh yes

Loved Statue of Liberty Minnie
Heidi and I geeked out over the nerdy Mickey and Minnie! so cute!
Heidi + Buzz= LOVE
There's a big Princess castle in the Disney store with all the Princess stuff.
